Rallying goes back one step further in David’s family; His father, Brian was a regular competitor in the 70’s and 80’s starting off as a driver then finishing as a co-driver which took him around the UK and to Ireland. Including co-driving for the Honda Norway team on the Manx International Rally (or Trophy Rally as it was then known as). David has always had a passion for rallying and followed in his footsteps starting out at the beginning of 2005 at the age of 18, after a brief spell in Kart racing during his school years. His first event was the CCS Stages held on the closed roads of the Isle of Man. The very same year would also see him take his first Championship win, winning class ‘A’ for up to 1400cc cars. 2006 Started off as another promising year, finishing 3rd in class on the season opener, then taking a dominant class victory by over 3 minutes and finishing 8th overall on the gravel stages of the Kingsmead Finance Rally. But after a no-score on the following two rounds due to mechanical problems the championship was lost. For 2007 David opted out of the full Manx Championship after missing the first two rounds due to the reshelling of the Nova, he competed in numerous events during the year with mixed success, including making his off-island debut on the Trackrod Rally of Yorkshire at the beginning of October driving a Jam Motorsport run S1400 Peugeot, however the event ended in retirement on the penultimate stage with a broken driveshaft after holding on to 3rd position. 2008 saw the start of David's 4th season in the sport and also his biggest programme of events yet. Competing in a full National UK championship (Silverstone Tyres BRC Challenge (BRCC)) with Jam Motorsport in a S1400 Specification Peugeot 106, and also selected events of the Eurocars Motorsport Manx Stage Rally Championship.

Despite approaching the season as a learning curve, David took away the BRCC spoils and that included the opportunity to make his international debut in a fully funded drive on the final round of both the British and World Rally Championships in Wales Rally GB and also free entries to the 2009 British Rally Championship season.

In 2009 David competed in the British Rally Championship Suzuki Swift Sport Cup (SSSC), although driveshaft failures on the season opening Bulldog Rally and Jim Clark Rally cost the team any chance of the title. Despite finishing on the podium on every event he finished the decision was made to miss the final outing of the season, Rally Yorkshire to preserve budget for 2010.

For 2010 David once again took on the SSSC, after a second place finish to rising Finnish star Mikko Pajunen on the opening round an accident on the Pirelli International Rally in April put paid to the rest of the year's budget and the championship - David's only other BRC outing of the year came on his home event, Rally Isle of Man, where he took to the wheel of a Peugeot 206 Cup Car for the first time - Here's to a better season in 2011!
